Revised Flood-Plain Maps Stir Uproar From Some SW Florida Residents; Add'l Insurance Expense Could Push Homeowners On Financial Brink Over The Edge

In Collier County, Florida, the Naples Daily News reports:
  • Maps usually only create angst if rival country boundaries or political districts are in play. But a set of flood-plain maps released recently is causing a great deal of uproar, especially for residents of Golden Gate Estates. Why? Because as many as 50,000 structures in Collier County could need to start buying flood insurance within the next nine months to 18 months.

  • While local insurance agents declined to give much guidance on pricing without a specific property to insure, the going rates seem to be between $400 and $1,500.
